HOW PROFESSIONALS USE SNAPSHOT
CORPORATE
PERFORMANCE
SALES AND NEGOTIATIONS
Senior level executives and team leaders use Snapshot to quickly lead and direct teams to quickly develop consensus within teams. In cross-cultural organizations, it’s the cultural bridge.
Reduce Tim to Promote Trust
The senior VP of a major company reduced the time it took to build trust with clients from 20 to 5 minutes. Yes, she was timed.
Reduce Cancellations
A newcomer to the life insurance industry reduced cancellations by 13% in just 3 weeks with one Snapshot read. He became the #2 first-year-performer out of college for one of the three largest North American companies because he had more appointments.
Close Deals
One of the largest land deals in the Northwest was stalled for two years. A negotiator brought the parties together, used the Korem Profiling System®, and the deal closed in days. In another major deal that languished, a consultant profiled the key VP, modified an email based upon the VP’s profile, the deal closed that day.
Foreign Negotiations
Our first client was the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Members must be the president of a large company before they turn 40. They explained to Dan that they were regularly misreading those at the table during foreign negotiations. They wanted to read cultural nuances separate from a person’s actual profile and identify in this order: How someone communicates, operates, and make decisions. That’s how the Korem Profiling System® was created. Then testing for accuracy was added. Today, with so many stakeholders and cultures at the table, you can’t operate from your gut. Snapshot training provides a quantifiable skill to promote accuracy and a transparent path to explain to your team why you are taking a specific tack.
LEAD TEAMS
Senior level executives and team leaders use Snapshot to quickly lead and direct teams to quickly develop consensus within teams. In cross-cultural organizations, it’s the cultural bridge.
Fortune 500 Merger
When United and Continental merged, we trained a strategic team from each organization that monitored the successful integration of each company’s systems. Understanding the human factor was critical for success. Using the Korem Profiling System®, the team, comprised of 25 professionals from each company, collectively identified and agreed on the following in just 20 minutes:
- The unique profile of each company
- The 3 key factors to leverage in each company
- The 3 key factors to not activate in each company
Cautious Innovator Profile
This is the fastest growing profile in the workforce and it baffles team leaders. It was identified by Dan in the early 1990s while providing workshops for K-12 education professionals where he saw the profile in its formation stage. It extends across all generation groups and affects 25 to 50% of incoming staff. While it appears to be a conflicting profile on the surface, we solved the riddle of how to lead these professionals and produce measurable results in days. Invaluable for innovative, technology-driven organizations.
C-Suite Often Worst At Reading People–Predicting the Collapse of Andersen
Three years before the collapse of Andersen, one of the big-five accounting firms, Dan gave a keynote to the managing partners. He made just one read of the group and predicted the demise of one of the world’s most trusted audit companies (explained in Snapshot, Chapter 9, Collapse of a Giant). The lesson here is that most organizational leaders need a “Human Factor Swiss Army Knife.” When their profiling accuracy is tested, C-suite do just as poorly as sales professionals. Our first clients were members of the Young Presidents Organization. Here are typical ways board-level executives use Snapshot: quickly profile teams on location; build consensus; negotiations; avoid or terminate destructive deals.
Team Connection
Teams that don’t function often can’t communicate and/or can’t perform as a unit. This can be quickly corrected when they learn to profile together and self-diagnose solutions. It is more effective to let team members, who have been trained and have established accuracy, to profile each other than to use a self-assessment instrument as they are more likely to take ownership because they understand how they made the read. Most of our clients solve human factor productivity issues in two days or less. They not only take ownership, they have direct control without relying upon complicated psychological testing and grids. Snapshot also has 2 built-in safety checks to correct misreads on the fly, which isn’t available with most testing grids.
RECRUIT AND HIRE STAFF
Behavioral interviews are the preferred method for Fortune 500 companies. Korem & Associates was the first to combine on-the-spot behavioral profiling, where the interviewer is tested for their accuracy, with behavioral questions. This combination provides more data and a check on accuracy. Over 2,000 team leaders who recruit and hire staff and senior executives have been trained.
A Check on Your Self-Assessment Tests
Chapter leaders of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) contacted us and explained that Dan developed the first practical check on self-assessment tests (and we trained many of their members as a result).
Team Selects Profile
Now your team can identify the precise profile that is needed for a new team member. This promotes team acceptance, fit, and shortens on-boarding which promotes productivity and team efficiency.
AUDIT AND SECURITY
The ability to identify someone’s behavioral profile is invaluable for investigations, risk assessment, and presenting findings.
Audit: First application
While the number one perceived need for using Snapshot is for fraud investigations and fact gathering, the first way leading audit units used the Korem Profiling System® (KPS) was to present findings to boards so they would take action. In effect, to become a player at the table.
Auditor Gets Board to Take Action
The director of internal audit profiles resistant state board members and convinces them to take action for the first time in two years, saving the state substantial funds.
Audit Unit Changes Who It Hires to Emerge From Bankruptcy
Director of internal audit used the KPS to hire new auditors who had excellent communication skills, in addition to their other competencies. The purpose? Convince employees to provide transparent data quickly to save jobs. It worked.
Prevents Random Actor Violence Incidents
In the early 1990s, Dan was asked by the leading HR association to see if the KPS could be used to identify the random shooter/bomber before they attacked. When provided cases, he discovered that all had the Random Actor profile in the KPS. He then solved the riddle why there were attacks in the Post Office, but rarely if ever at UPS and FedEx, even though they were also in the delivery business. And, why attacks in suburbs and small towns, but rarely high-crime inner-city communities. He also developed a 3-point intervention that stops attacks as detailed in Snapshot and Rage of the Random Actor: Disarming Catastrophic Acts and Restoring Lives.
CROSS-CULTURAL
INTERACTIONS
Eliminate Stereotyping, Connect with Any Culture Even If You Can't Speak Their Language
CROSS CULTURAL INTERACTION
The number one source of stereotyping people in another culture is the inability to read a culture’s behavioral profile separate from cultural customs and separate from a person’s actual behavioral profile.
Snapshot will help you successfully interact across cultures to promote trust and understanding without stereotyping by following three simple steps (for more details see The Art of Profiling and Snapshot).
All Cultures Have a Behavioral Profile
Step 1: Identify the culture’s behavioral profile.
As a group, who shows more emotion in public: North American citizens or Swiss citizens? If you travel to Switzerland, you’ll know that the answer is North American citizens. All cultures have behavioral tendencies, which can be identified using the Korem Profiling System®.
Cultures Have Customs that are Distinct from Their Behavioral Profile
Step 2: Identify customs unique to that culture which may be confused for a behavioral read.
In some cultures, it’s inappropriate to make sustained eye contact. This may be a custom of that cultural. It doesn’t mean individuals in that culture may are may not be assertive when they communicate (which is a behavioral trait), rather its just a custom.
People Have a Profile that May be Distinct from the First Two Factors
Step 3: Identify the person’s behavioral profile using Snapshot
You can now identify a person’s actual profile separate from the culture they live in and customs.
SNAPSHOT AT
HOME
The #1 request is "How can Snapshot help me in my personal life"
PERSONAL LIFE
The number one question Dan is asked during workshop lunch breaks is how can I use this to help my family? Rarely, if ever, has a senior executive asked for insight on a merger, major proposal, or Dan’s take on market conditions. It’s always about their personal life.
Getting Along
Many say that for the first time they understand why they get along with some and have difficulty with others…the mystery is taken out of improving relationships because Snapshot makes it clear without fuzziness. And, it can be done on the spot.
Peace at Home
The second story in Dan’s book Snapshot is about a successful entrepreneur who used one Snapshot read to reduce the time to end a disagreement with his wife by half. Thousands of others who have learned the read he used have done the same.
Guidance for Their Kids
How to nurture, lead, and discipline children is the other most asked question.
Snapshot provides many insights.
Family Workshops
The Young Presidents Organization (YPO) often had Dan at their international conferences and local chapters to share insights about parenting, new risk trends, and how to parent with a legacy. This led to family workshops where parents and kids (14 or older) learned to profile together. (Globally, when tested, 19–26 year-olds have the highest profiling accuracy after two days of instruction. Usually over 90%!)
ATHLETIC
COMPETITIONS
Coach and Recruit, Create Leadership, Create Team Unity, Reduce Decision Fatigue, Shorten Learning Curve
COACH AND RECRUIT
If you follow sports, you may have read about athletes and teams who benefited from a coach who used Snapshot to produce world-class results.
One of the Nation’s Leading Collegiate Pitchers Couldn’t Throw to First Base
Coaches call it the “thang” and Steve Sax Syndrome. Dan Korem solved the pattern of who gets it and why. What’s called “the yips” in golf. He trained the pitcher’s coach how to reverse it off the field, and within weeks the pitcher could throw to first base again, prompting amazement from ESPN announcers who thought she just had shoulder problems. (More in Snapshot, Chapter 13, Solving a Mystery: The Yips Caper.)
Olympic Gold Medalist Learning Curve Shortened
An Olympic gold medalist is training for a new event but can’t connect with the coach’s instruction. Another coach teaches the exact same technique but it is delivered based upon the athlete’s profile using the Korem Profiling System®. The athlete’s learning curve is dramatically shortened and wins gold at World Championships.
Increase Blue Chip Recruits
Most coaches can read athletic talent, but can’t profile the athlete or the parents/caregivers…the athlete’s “champion.” The ability to rapid-fire profile is a game-changer for those who use it.
EDUCATION
ELEVATE STUDENTS
Increase Grades, Get Scholarships, Win Competitions, Prevent High-risk Behavior
ELEVATE STUDENTS ACADEMICALLY AND IN LIFE
Over 25,000 teachers have used Snapshot to educate students, develop leadership, help them win competitions, and reduce and mitigate high-risk behavior.
Random Actor Violence Prevention Program
More than 20,000 educators and law enforcement globally have been trained how to prevent Random Actor school massacres like Newton, CT, Columbine, and Virginia. For results produced and an overview, please go to this page.
Missing Protector Strategy (MPS)
Dan first published the MPS in his landmark book, Suburban Gangs—The Affluent Rebels (2004). The MPS stops most high-risk behavior for at-risk youth, from the suburbs to the inner-city. It is the number one deterrent to suicide and gang recruitment, and one of the main deterrents to truancy, teen pregnancy, and poor classroom performance.
Coach the Student, Teach the Text and Connect
Educators use the Snapshot to immediately improve student comprehension and retention. The idea is to instruct and coach each class and student based on their unique behavioral profile. The first high school that used it produced stunning results. Within just 90 days, over 90% of the high school students passed every class (54% were economically disadvantaged) and behavioral referrals dropped 20%! For additional information, please contact us.

HOW STUDENTS USE SNAPSHOT
ONLINE COURSE
GRADES
Average grades up 7-10 points in 2-8 weeks...in-person classes up 7-15 points
ONLINE COURSE GRADES
Snapshot students new to America from Mexico at a border-town school where Korem & Associates donated training, took online college classes as juniors and seniors to graduate from high school early. This helped them skip most if not all freshman college classes to save money. Since 2015, students from all communities and backgrounds have applied the same techniques with the same results.
HOW: They did it by making Snapshot reads of their professors, the subject, and classmates on projects. Then they modified how they approached papers and projects based upon the professor’s expectations. Especially with professors who weren’t effective communicators. They also lead classmates to maximize team project performance. Best practices are now part of our workshop and coaching sessions.
Two students, who assist our faculty, took extra classes in-person and online courses with less studying, skipped all or most of their freshman year in college, and received over $125K in scholarships. Students of all ages are riveted when they explain in coaching sessions how they did it.
STUDENT
SCHOLARSHIPS
Students get sports and academic scholarships with first-choice schools
STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Many students in our coaching sessions have explained how they didn’t get a scholarship when doing interviews before they learned Snapshot. Once they learned how to quickly profile the interviewing committee and adapt on the fly to more effectively make their case, they got academic and sports scholarships.
Other students, who were turned down, got scholarships when they used Snapshot to write behaviorally specific papers for foundations after researching the foundations.
POSTGRADUATE
STUDENTS
Rockefeller Medical University students use Snapshot to lead elite teams—others get jobs
POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS
A Ph.D. candidate called Dan and explained that they formed a self-study group to learn how to lead teams using his book Snapshot.
Dan asked, “Why did you start the study group?”
“Because we’ve learned all the book knowledge, but they never taught us how to lead people, which is what we will be doing when we finish.”
Graduating Law Student Gets More Offers
Using Snapshot, he profiled the potential firms and partners, wrote his letters target-specific to their profiles, and conducted interviews based upon each partner’s profile to ensure a 360 degree fit. Result: He got more job offers and at a higher dollar than anyone in his class.
WIN
COMPETITIONS
Competition separator in major competitions in arts, athletics, debate, FFA, and more
WIN COMPETITIONS
A men’s baseball team that was loaded with talent, only 2 seniors, and no leadership was trained on Snapshot. They won state in one of the most competitive states in the US. They attributed their competition separator to a player only meeting to sort out clubhouse issues.
A women’s basketball team was disintegrating from within. Trained on Snapshot, they won back players who were going to quit. They won state beating one of the nation’s leading teams that had a 5-year championship run. The opposing coach acknowledged, “They never quit. They just kept coming at us.”
Numerous students capture top honors in state Lincoln-Douglas and Congressional debate and speech competitions by applying Snapshot reads of judges, opponents, and subject.
Student captures state in oil painting competition. How? He changed his appearance so he looked more conventional. He said judges usually viewed his unconventional attire and assumed he was creative and gave him lower points. When he changed to conventional attire, he said, “They completely changed and wondered how such an ordinary kid could paint like that!” (One of the four Snapshot reads identifies if a person is conventional or unconventional.)
Graduate
Faster
Students take more classes, study less, and skip first year of college
GRADUATE FASTER
College is a huge investment. It’s over a quarter of a million dollars for most by the time you add in income that could have been earned while in college. Students hear about it from their parents and the loans to be paid long after graduation.
Snapshot students are using their skill set to make reads of teachers, subjects and classmates on projects to adapt and perform better and study less so they can take more college courses while in high school. Emphasis on how to do it is provided in workshops and coaching sessions.
